Netgear DG834G - Vista

All IDNet supplied Netgear routers come preconfigured for basic internet access. The following guide will help you should you ever need to reset your router to factory defaults or it looses its configuration.

What's in the box?

NETGEAR DG834G - 4 port Ethernet router with built in ADSL modem
Ethernet cable
RJ11 cable
Power adapter
Micro filter
Set up guide and other documentation
CD – This has been removed as the router will come preconfigured and running this disc can wipe the original configuration

How to set it up

Ensure you have all the equipment and nothing is missing.

Connect one end of the Ethernet cable to the port on the back of the router and the other end into the corresponding port on your PC.

Take the RJ11 cable and plug it into the port on the back of the router and the other end into the DSL port on the micro filter.

Plug the micro filter into the telephone socket and finally plug the power adapter into the router and a suitable power supply.

You should see the lights on the front of the modem come on.

Next you you will need to open your browser e.g. Internet Explorer/Firefox, type in http://192.168.0.1 into the address bar and hit Enter. You should now see this page;

Enter 'admin' in the User Name field and 'password' in the Password field then click OK.

In the menu of the left side of the window click on Basic Settings, work through the page entering the following settings;

Click Apply then go to ADSL Settings

Enter the following settings;

Click Apply. You have now entered all the information you need to make a connection to the Internet. You may need to configure your PC, to do this click on the Windows Icon in the bottom left corner of your screen.

At the bottom of the window you will see Start Search, type in 'network and sharing' then hit Enter.

The Network and Sharing Centre will launch automatically, under Network you will see Local Area Connection, click on View Status.

You will now have a new window called Local Area Connection Status, click on 'Properties', you may be asked for permission to continue, click 'Continue'.

You should now see Local Area Connection Properties, click on 'Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)' then click on 'Properties'.

Ensure that 'Obtain and IP address automatically' and 'Obtain DNS server address automatically' are selected then click OK.

You should now be able to access the Internet, if you have any difficulty why not visit our Support Guides for assistance with troubleshooting the issue, alternatively contact the Support Team.

If you want to use the wireless functionality of the router you should now go to Wireless Settings to set this up. Go back to the Netgear configuration page and click on Wireless Settings found in the left hand menu.

Enter the following settings;

Click Apply

Locate the wireless adapter client in your PC/laptop and scan for available networks, NETGEAR should be listed, click to connect to this network and you should be prompted for the pass key.
