Netgear DG834 - XP
All IDNet supplied Netgear routers come preconfigured for basic internet access. The following guide will help you should you ever need to reset your router to factory defaults or it looses its configuration.

- NETGEAR DG834 - 4 port Ethernet router with built in ADSL modem
- Ethernet cable
- RJ11 cable
- Power adapter
- Micro filter

How to set it up
Ensure you have all the equipment and nothing is missing.
Connect one end of the Ethernet cable to the port on the back of the router and the other end into the corresponding port on your PC.
Take the RJ11 cable and plug it into the port on the back of the router and the other end into the DSL port on the micro filter.
Plug the micro filter into the telephone socket and finally plug the power adapter into the router and a suitable power supply.
You should see the lights on the front of the modem come on.
Next you you will need to open your browser e.g. Internet Explorer/Firefox, type in http://192.168.0.1 into the address bar and hit Enter. You should now see this page:
Enter admin in the User Name field and password in the Password field then click OK.
In the menu of the left side of the window click on Basic Settings, work through the page entering the following settings:
- Does your connection require a login?: Yes
- Encapsulation: PPPoA (PPP over ATM)
- Login: As provided to you by IDNet
- Password: As provided to you by IDNet
- Idle Timeout: 0
- Internet IP address: Get Dynamically from ISP
- Domain Name Server (DNS) address: Primary 212.69.36.3 Secondary 212.69.40.3
- NAT (Network Address Translation): Enable
Click Apply then go to ADSL Settings.
Enter the following settings:
- Multiplexing Method: VC-Based
- VPI:0
- VCI:38
Click Apply. You have now entered all the information you need to make a connection to the Internet. Click on Log Out at the bottom of the menu.
You may need to configure your PC, to do this go to Control Panel and click on Network Connections.
Then right click on the Local Area Connection icon and click on Properties.
You will now see this page:
Right click on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click on Properties and you should see the following window:
Ensure that Obtain an IP address Automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically are selected then click OK.
