How to connect to the Test Socket
The most efficient way to rule out your hardware and internal wiring is to do the following to run all tests from the BT Test Socket, this not only saves time but could save you a considerable amount of money!
If your fault is raised to BT and an engineer is sent to your premises who determines there is no fault condition or the fault was caused by non BT maintained hardware or wiring a charge of £140 ex VAT will be applied to you. It is for this reason that IDNet Support will always request you do this test before any faults are passed on to BT for further investigation.
- Locate the BT Master Socket within the premises, this is the first socket where the line comes into the house.
Unscrew the faceplate and gently pull it back, you should find another socket behind, this is called a Test Socket and should look like this:- Connect the filter and modem/router directly to the Test Socket
- After a few moments if the DSL/Link light is still flashing swap the filter with another one
- If still no sync, swap the modem/router with an alternative.
